National PlayDay
The IPA Canada National PlayDay celebrates the child’s right to play. Our next PlayDay will be celebrated on August 6th, 2025.
National PlayDay spotlights play and its fundamental importance for children, families and communities. Feel free to download our PlayDay guide and become an agent of play, fun and discovery in your community!
PlayDay History
Our original 2000 campaign is available for download on our resources page (il est aussi disponible en français).
Previously, we had multiple PlayDays per year, but unfortunately the COVID pandemic caused our operations to scale back. As we adjust to post-pandemic life in Canada, IPA seeks to revitalize play by expanding this important event. You can view our past PlayDay maps at the links below.
In 2017, we revived the National PlayDay initiative at our Triennial World Conference and aligned it with the UK’s National PlayDay, which is on the first Wednesday of August. This aims to promote a global International PlayDay. For more on the importance of child-directed play and the history of the Canadian event, check out our 2020 National PlayDay blog post here.
